Premiered at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Québec

December 4th, 2008 to April 12th, 2009

Marche sur ma tombe returns the audio guide to its roots: the museum. The intent here isn’t to offer a guided tour of the Musée National des beaux-arts du Québec’s works of art, but to provide a soundtrack that will make them resonate in a paradoxical and personal way.

“Conservation”, “collection”, “exposition” are words that could be used when talking about funerals. My brother died when he was 11 after a tragic accident. The museum became his tomb.

The text, Le profil des animaux dans les feuillages, serves as a starting point for the audio track. It tells a story which combines real or imagined memories connected to my brother. I want to contrast this story’s intimacy to the solemnity of the museum. Pieces of the collection will no longer be markers in art history, but will bear witness to my brother Martin’s life.

VOICE
Museums are exactly like funeral homes:
They’re both places where death exposes itself
and the living pass by and stop.
